Sunflowers
| | Original sizeIn July 2017 my parents and I visited Romania. We landed in Bucharest in the afternoon and drove north out of the city as the sun was setting. At the time I had no idea that Romania was one of the world's top growers of sunflowers. All I knew was that the sun was sinking into endless fields of them. The evening light was golden and the flowers gilded with it.
But what struck me particularly was an electrical substation positioned in the midst of a field. The harsh black lines of wire and poles and equipment somehow made the scene more, not less, beautiful.
The vision stayed with me. I knew I wanted to draw something like that. I finished the first version a few months later.
Five years later I revisited the piece.
